Cannabis is a 100% natural product that’s getting a lot of attention right now, but what benefits does cannabis offer?

You wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the cannabis industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States. It’s going from strength to strength as more states legalize cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes. It’s not just in the United States either, Canada has fully legalized cannabis, and many countries around the world are looking at following their lead.

Cannabis is made up of 113 different cannabinoids, but the two most abundant are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It’s these two cannabinoids that many of the health studies around the world are focusing on. Most CBD products utilize CBD that’s sourced from hemp plants, whereas most cannabis products that are high in THC are sourced from marijuana plants.

Under the 2018 US Farm Bill, products containing less than 0.3% THC are considered hemp and legal. Over 0.3% THC and they’re deemed illegal at a federal level. In the following article, we’re going to look at some of the studies that have been done on the cannabis plant and their findings.

What Benefits Does the Cannabis Plant Offer?

The cannabinoids inside the cannabis plant have been linked to a variety of different benefits. Cannabinoids interact with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) inside us. Everyone, regardless of whether they have tried cannabis, has an ECS. Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids, but cannabinoids can step in and replicate the effects of endocannabinoids when our bodies aren’t producing enough.

  • Improve your lung capacityCannabis, when smoked, can increase your lung capacity rather than reduce it. One study found that people that smoked cannabis flower saw an increase in their lung capacity.
  • Help with mental health such as anxiety and depression Studies have shown that cannabis can help with some mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
  • Reduce seizures associated with epilepsy – Currently, Epidiolex is one of the only drugs to be approved by the FDA, which has the main ingredient of cannabis. Epidiolex is used to treat the severe seizures associated with epilepsy and Dravet’s syndrome.
  • Potent anti-inflammatory – When we’re injured, the body’s natural response is to send inflammatory bodies to swell the area while it heals. Studies have shown that cannabinoids such as CBD have strong anti-inflammatory properties that could shorten the time that our bodies need to heal. This is particularly important for fitness enthusiasts and athletes that are consistently working out as it can reduce recovery times.
